Paintless dent repair, or PDR, is the method of working a dent back out of a panel from behind so the original paint stays where it is. No filler, no primer, no colour matching, no refinishing. When a dent qualifies for it, PDR is faster and cheaper than conventional repair, and the car keeps its factory finish — which matters both for how the panel looks over time and for what the car is worth when you sell it.
When PDR works and when it does not
The two conditions that matter are the paint and the access. If the finish is unbroken — no crack, no flake, no scrape through to primer — and the back of the panel can be reached, a dent is a good candidate. Door dings from a car park, shallow creases along a flank, hail-style dimples on a roof or hood, and rounded dents on a fender usually qualify. PDR does not work where the paint is already broken, where the metal is stretched or has a sharp fold, where the dent sits on a body line or a panel edge, or where structural reinforcement blocks access from behind. In those cases conventional repair with refinishing is the right answer, and we will say so rather than sell you a method that will not hold.
How we assess a dent
We look at the panel in raking light, check the finish for hairline cracking, and check what is behind it. That assessment is free and takes minutes. If the dent qualifies you get a PDR price; if it does not, you get a conventional repair estimate and an explanation of why. Sometimes the answer is a combination — the shape pushed most of the way back with PDR, then a small area refinished.
Why keeping the original paint is worth something
Factory paint is applied and cured under conditions no repair shop can reproduce exactly. A refinished panel done properly looks right and lasts, but the original finish is still the benchmark, and on a leased car or a car you plan to sell, an untouched panel is one less thing to explain. In coastal parts of the South Bay there is a practical argument too: every time a panel is taken back to bare metal it is one more place where salt air can eventually find an edge.

What exactly is paintless dent repair?
It is the process of massaging a dent back out from behind the panel so the original paint is never disturbed. There is no filler, no primer and no repainting.
How do I know if my dent qualifies?
The paint must be unbroken and the back of the panel must be reachable. Bring the car in or send a photo taken at a low angle and we will tell you within minutes, at no charge.
Is PDR cheaper than a normal dent repair?
Usually yes, because it removes the most expensive part of the job: preparation, painting and blending. The saving is largest on a single clean dent.
How long does it take?
A single door ding is often the same day. Several dents or a larger crease can take longer, but PDR is almost always faster than a repair that needs refinishing.
Can you remove a crease along a body line?
Sharp creases on a body line are the hardest case and often cannot be fully corrected with PDR. We will tell you honestly whether the result will satisfy you before starting.
Will the dent come back?
No. Once the metal is returned to its original shape it stays there. What PDR cannot do is repair paint that was already damaged.
Do you do hail damage?
